Free App for Offline Language Translation

"Microsoft Translate" is a free App for translating many languages online and offline. There is an IOS App and an Android App depending on the type of mobile phone that you have.

The App will translate into many, many different world languages if you are connected to a cell tower or if you are connected to WiFi.

However, to translate into a specific language when you have no WiFi or cell network signal then you can still translate into a specific foreign language if you have already downloaded that language onto your mobile phone. Each language requires approximately 100 MB of storage on your mobile phone. And it takes between 5 to 10 minutes to download each language depending on the speed of your current internet connection.

I downloaded several languages onto my mobile phone because I cannot predict the future. I do not know who I may need to converse with at some time in the future. And it would be nice if we could take turns and talk to one another without having to communicate through someone who is bilingual.

The App also types the words correctly spelled in the foreign language on the screen for you to see just before the App speaks the words in the foreign language that you have specified. I liked this feature.

However, when I asked my phone to translate the English sentence that I had just spoken into the Chinese language, I had no idea what I was looking at when the Chinese characters appeared on my phone just before my phone spoke to me in Chinese.

On the other hand, when I asked for a Spanish translation of the English sentence that I spoke, I did understand the printed words in Spanish and the spoken words in Spanish. I then spoke the Spanish words into my phone and my phone correctly translated those words back into English.

Respectfully,
Grandpappy.
