Sewer Mouth

When I was young (a long time ago) anyone who allowed a steady flow of nasty words to spew out of their mouth was called a "sewer mouth" because they allowed the disgusting stuff that was inside of them to freely flow out of their mouths. (People who used bad words frequently, but not continuously, were called "gutter mouths.")
When I was young there were very, very few people who used profanity in public. Today people frequently curse in a restaurant, in a grocery store, in Walmart, and while they are just walking down the street.
When I was young I also remember that the radio stations that I listened to, and the TV shows that I watched, were all carefully censored and offensive language was simply not permitted. Today it is unusual to be able to watch a TV show or a movie without hearing some type of bad language. Sometimes it is only one or two bad words in the entire movie, and sometimes it is bad language throughout the entire movie. I personally refuse to continue watching a movie that is saturated with vulgar nasty words.
Some of you may remember that several decades ago teachers wrote on a blackboard with white chalk. And occasionally the chalk would make an ear piercing screeching sound that was extremely unpleasant to the ears. That is the way that I hear foul language. It is painful to my ears. I also realize that many, many people today have become so accustomed to hearing bad language that it has no longer registers on their ears because they have been calmly listening to it for so many years. Their ears have been so accustomed to the nasty words that the filthy words no longer register on their conscious minds. My mind has not yet reached that level of saturation and I still consciously hear every bad word that is said within my range of hearing and those vulgar words cause me to cringe in the same way as screeching chalk on a blackboard.
Today many people believe that using offensive language is a sign of maturity. However, in my opinion, it is a sign of immaturity and it demonstrates a complete lack of self-control.
There are many, many people today who believe that is okay to curse someone out for any reason, such as a waitress, or a nurse, or a mechanic, or a law enforcement officer, or a pastor, or a cashier. These "sewer mouths" know that these other people still have rules that they must follow and these other people have to listen to the profanity that is directed at them and that they must respond in a polite manner or they will lose their jobs.
"Sewer mouths" believe they have the right to verbally abuse other people based on the same twisted logic that a thief or a murderer uses to justify his or her actions against a law abiding citizen.
Today people are no longer allowed to pollute the air inside a restaurant or inside a store with tobacco smoke. Why do we believe that instead of tobacco smoke that it is now okay to pollute the air in a public place with profanity and to force everyone within hearing range, including little children, to be subject to the offensive dirty filthy language of another person? This implies that only "sewer mouths" have rights today and that the rest of us, including our children, have no rights.
The Holy Bible says the following:
Matthew 12:36-37 - "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." (NKJV)
Most people today do not believe that they will be held accountable for every word they have spoken during their lives. However, God has said that these people are going to be condemned when they stand before Him on their day of judgment.
Hebrews 10:31 - It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (NKJV)
If you use bad language occasionally, or frequently, or continuously, then you should make an effort to stop.
If you do not currently use profanity then you should not begin using it. In addition, you should tell your children and your grandchildren that they should avoid using profanity. Instead they should learn how to express themselves clearly without having to resort to offensive language. The reason is simple. It is a lot easier to not do something if you never got into the bad habit of doing it. However, after you acquire a bad habit then it is extremely hard to stop doing it.
